Frequently Asked Questions
Pencil
Portraits FAQ
Q:
Do you digitally edit the photos of your pencil
drawings on this site to make them look better?
A:
NO! I would never digitally
edit pictures of my drawings. My
desire is to have the pictures of my drawings
on this site look as close to the originals
as possible. In actuality, the pictures on here
do not have the same depth and detail as their
originals, because of the size limits for images
viewed on the web.
I
use a high quality digital camera to take pictures
of my drawings. The only thing I have ever done,
is remove the background. The reason for this
is again, to get them to look like the original.
Any lighting tends to make the white paper of
the backgrounds look dingy gray in the photograph,
even though it is not like that in reality.
Here
is an example:
So,
my drawings are not computer generated in any
way. You can be assured that your pencil portrait
will be hand drawn, detailed, and realistic. |
Q:
I have more than one picture with different
people. Can I have them drawn together in one
pencil portrait?
A:
Yes! I will be happy to
draw people taken from different photographs.
It works best if the poses and
lighting of the subjects are similar so they
will go well together in your portrait. Please
send the photo and your request to pencilsandpixelsart@yahoo.com
so I can determine how the 2 pictures will work
together and give you a free quote. |
Q:
My picture is small, can you still draw from
it?
A:
It will depend on the
quality of the photo. If the
photo is hard copy and very clear, I may be
able to scan it at a high resolution and create
a portrait from it. However, if the photo is
digital, and low resolution, it may not be possible
to see enough detail for a pencil portrait.
Please
send the photo to pencilsandpixelsart@yahoo.com
so I can look at it and determine if it will
work. Also, please read the Choosing
Your Photo section for some tips. |
Q:
In my portrait, I want something different from
the photo. Can you do that?
A:
Yes, within reason.
I have done this in the past, for example, adjusting
a subjects eyes so they were looking straight
out instead of to the side. If
you want something drawn differently like the
hair, teeth, clothing, etc. I will be happy
to try and accommodate your request. Please
contact me for a free
quote. |
Q:
How did you learn to draw?
A:
I am a self taught artist,
and I have been drawing since I was a teenager.
For more information about how
I started to draw please visit the About
the Artist section. |
Q:
Can I have you add some some text or lettering
to my portrait?
A:
Yes. I
can add just text, or a hand drawn text insignia.
Please visit the pricing
for pencil portraits for more information. |
Q:
In
the pencil portraits and celebrity art galleries,
some portraits are better than others. Some
have more detail, more variation of tone, and
seem better proportioned. Why is that?
A:
The galleries contain
works created during my entire drawing career.
Some from when I first started drawing, all
the way up to recently finished work. Therefore,
some of the older drawings are not as good as
the more current ones. Many of them I drew using
just a mechanical pencil. I leave them in the
galleries so people can see the progression
of my talent. We all improve the more we practice
something, and drawing is no different. |
Q:
Can I buy your celebrity art?
A:
No. The
celebrity art is not for sale. |
