The step by step process in the digital colorization of a photo.

The original photo.
Blurriness, yellowing, and darkening of the edges is very evident. Also has several small surface scratches and flaws.

After a high quality scan, the first correction is to remove the yellow hue.
Next, the photo has some minor tonal correction and cropping/painting to eliminate the black edges.

Surface flaws and scratches are removed from all sections of the image.
The final image has the correct tonal value, no surface flaws, and a new background, The photo can now be enlarged.
